August 3rd
Just wanted to let everyone know that the team will be going to the 150 this weekend as well to let those that were wondering what happened to the car last weekend, the water pump gave up the ghost and I did not want to run the chance of overheating the engine, so I made the decision to park it. This hit the team hard in the standings but with determination and a good effort we can finish the season in the top 10. hope everyone had a terrific long weekend and we hope to see you at the Firecracker 150.

July 1st:
Last weekend was a good weekend for the 40 team, finishing 3rd in the heat and 7th in the dash. Qualified us 10th in the feature. After a in race incident in turn 1on lap 4, I was so happy that no one hit me as I sat broadside to everyone coming into the turn, its nice to know that the drivers in the sportsman class are always on there A game when onthe track. The next thing was starting at the back and finishing 6th in the feature. All that combined with the car coming home in one piece adds up to a good weekend. I was happy to see Robert in the 29 Pro stock climb out of the car well and wave to everyone. That was a bad thing that happened in turn 3. I also wanted to let everyone know that the 40 team picked up a new sponsor during my wife's yard sale two weekend ago, Gord's Renovations in Geary NB came on board, the team is very happy to have them. We hope that they enjoy being part of the fun at Speedway 660. I also want to mention that do to the limited tire fund that the Atkinson motor sports Model Town Apartments, Auto Machinery, Grey Signs, Norms Butcher Block and Coburn's Auto Selvage, Gord's Renovations Racing Impala SS sportsman stockcar wont be participating in the Martins Home Heating 100 this weekend. This was only decided this week after it was decided to use funds from the tire fund to repair the car. It was my full intention to run this race. I will though be down to the track to watch all the racing this weekend and to maybe help out the #2 of Matt Mathison in the street stock, he's a great person and a heck of a driver. So that it from the drivers corner this week.

June 14th:
That was a hoot this weekend. First let me start by saying thank you to fans that are so dedicated to this sport, I also want to say thank you to the sponsors of the 40 racing team, Model Town Appt,Norms Butcher shop, Auto Machinery, Grey Signs and Coburn's Auto Salvage. This was a total surprise to Heather, Brad and Sean and to myself. I don't want to jinx myself by saying to much, but it was some
nice to see the team come away with this win. We don't have alot of funding and everything I do get goes right into the car. During practice I really didn't think I was fast at all, Heather kept telling me that
the car looked lose and that the times weren't that good. So we tried something else and that seemed to make the car even loser so Heather was telling me, then I decided to check the practice time sheets and low and be hold there I was at the top not once but twice. I went to my loving wife and told her the news and she was shocked. During the Qualifier, I knew I had to finish 5th or better to get in the show. Starting 5th and Christy staring beside me and the 43 ahead of me, I knew I had to be patient. Soon as I saw an opening I went for it and the car stuck and from there I wasn't going to push the issue so I just road. In the
feature, starting seventh that put me in the inside row. I knew Randy was fast and the inside lane should be the line to move and so it did. When the last caution came out, it was something I didn't want to see. I
had two fast cars around me and I knew I had to be on the ball or that would be it. When we were going down the back stretch all I could here in the ear piece was Chris saying watch for the green, hold that pace,
don't jump the start, 5 laps to go, and stay off each other. All I could think about is I have to watch for the green, just as I see that flag twitch I'm going and the rest as they say is history. It was a great night I had alot of fun and I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves last weekend. I really wanted to do a burn out but that would have cost me tires and there's no money in the budget for that right now.  Once again
Heather and I thank you the great fans of this sport, for all your encouragement and support

ABOUT RICHARD

a_Heather_and_Rick_2008A

Richard was born in Sussex, New Brunswick in 1964 and was one of four brothers, Danny, Mark, Jason and of course Richard. Richard grew up in Sussex and graduated from Sussex Regional High School in 1985.

Richard joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 and became a member of the Armored Corps. In the 25 years since then, Richard has been a tank gunner and a tank driver and is now serving as an instructor at CFB Gagetown.

About the same time as Richard enlisted in the Armed Forces, he was also drawn into the world of stock car racing. He began his racing career, as so many others had, at River Glade Speedway, near Moncton, in the Street Stock class. At that time it was affectionately known as the “Dukes of Hazzards” class.

In his rookie season, Richard was fairly successful and came close to winning the “Rookie of the Year” crown at River Glade. When New Brunswick International Speedway opened in 1993, Richard began racing there on a regular basis and has been there ever since.

In 1997, Richard made the move from Street Stocks to the more powerful sportsman class and proceeded to win the Martin’s Home Heating “Rookie of the Year” award.

In 2004, Richard was awarded the prestigious “Ironman award” for his determination and dedication to the sport of stock car racing.

In addition to his life in the Armed Forces and stock car racing, Richard also finds time to be a dedicated family man. He and his wife Heather have two children, Stephanie and Chad.
