		Some days just turn out right. That’s the case for the #40 sportsman team last Saturday anyway. The car was fast and hooked up and Richard made all the right moves, giving him a fourth place result in his heat and a very impressive second in the feature. ................................ RESULTS Richard Atkinson takes the Checkers at Speedway 660 on June 12th: In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, in an uncharacteristic rough race, saw local favourite Richard Atkinson take home the checkers. Atkinson was strong all day leading 2 of the 3 practice sessions with fastest time. He started in seventh position and quickly powered his way to the top three in fewer than 10 laps, and then off a restart on lap 17, Atkinson had the preferred line on the outside and made his way to the front. Atkinson would have a couple challengers in Dave Bigger and Randy Moore but this night belonged to the #40. Dave Bigger got his first podium finish of the year finishing second and Randy Moore finished a strong third after a tough opening in week. ............................................. LOOK The 2010 race season is just around the corner now and Richard and crew are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the 2010 edition of the # 40 Impala SS. Everyone’s hopes are high for a great start to the season.

	*ABOUT RICHARD*



			Richard was born in Sussex, New Brunswick in 1964 and was one of four brothers, Danny, Mark, Jason and of course Richard. Richard grew up in Sussex and graduated from Sussex Regional High School in 1985. Richard joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 and became a member of the Armored Corps. In the 25 years since then, Richard has been a tank gunner and a tank driver and is now serving as an instructor at CFB Gagetown. About the same time as Richard enlisted in the Armed Forces, he was also drawn into the world of stock car racing. He began his racing career, as so many others had, at River Glade Speedway, near Moncton, in the Street Stock class. At that time it was affectionately known as the “Dukes of Hazzards” class. In his rookie season, Richard was fairly successful and came close to winning the “Rookie of the Year” crown at River Glade. When New Brunswick International Speedway opened in 1993, Richard began racing there on a regular basis and has been there ever since. In 1997, Richard made the move from Street Stocks to the more powerful sportsman class and proceeded to win the Martin’s Home Heating “Rookie of the Year” award. In 2004, Richard was awarded the prestigious “Ironman award” for his determination and dedication to the sport of stock car racing. In addition to his life in the Armed Forces and stock car racing, Richard also finds time to be a dedicated family man. He and his wife Heather have two children, Stephanie and Chad.
